Well, we thought we were finally going to get to some much desired Naruto versus Gaara battling this episode, what with the swift kick to the face Naruto delivered to Gaara at the end of the last episode, but instead it was more character development for Gaara, which actually wasn't that bad of a thing to be left with. Gaara is one messed up kid - there isn't any other way to get around that serious fact. You try being imbued with the essence of a demon spirit, kill your parents, have everyone in your village fear you, know you were born as nothing more than a killing machine, and see if you aren't screwed up too! Though the episode starts with Gaara trying to attack Sasuke, only for Sakura to step in the way and get slammed into a tree with his sand arm, it quickly delved into a psychological character study as the act of Sakura standing up to protect Sasuke sent him reeling back into time and his memory. Yashamaru - who we guess would be the closest thing Gaara had to a friend - once protected a bunch of kids much like Sakura did and Gai once did to protect Rock Lee. Yashamaru was Gaara's confidant essentially, the one person he could go to and talk with and who would listen to him and give him advice without running away. It's sad to have a young boy so stunted and alone, his heart aching for some sense of belonging and acceptance, and to hear Yashamaru talk about how physical pain is nothing and emotional pain is the really crippling stuff, how sometimes the hear can never heal, it was really touching. Of course, all that touching went southward into creepy land once Gaara started sucking on Yashamaru's newly cut finger so he could taste his blood and say it tasted like iron. Umm…eww much? Things got much worse for young Gaara when he tried to make amends with one of the boys he injured by giving him medicine, only for him to reject it and call him a freak, and then be attacked by a masked assassin.

Poor little Gaara.
Seeing Sakura 's determination to protect Sasuke , Gaara remembers his childhood with his uncle Yashamaru. They talked about pain — with Yashamaru explaining to him that the pain dealt to the heart takes the longest to heal and the only cure to such wound is love. Gaara, in time, made a deep bond with his uncle, feeling the pain going away with Yashamaru's love.
It's a less common occurrence, but it happens. My husband was definitely worth the heartache and suffering that I endured but I am grateful that he was able to see that our family was worth a change in lifestyle. But there are a lot of women who post here who have flipped from TBM to apostate.
