But for those who have a Portal or may be getting one soon, we want to focus on what exactly this smart display can do that really sets it apart. Check out these tips for how to get the most from your Portal. Superframe, the smart screen itself, is what controls the photo slideshow your Portal displays when not being actively used. Head to S ettings, and you will find the ability to set the cycle speed of photos 10 or 15 seconds and, more importantly, where your photos are coming from.
Getting Started With Portal
Setting up your Facebook Portal is a super-easy process that will take you just a few minutes. Step 1 : First, you need to power up your Portal. Plug the power cord that came with it into the back of the screen, then plug the cord into the wall. If your Portal needs to download a software update, it will notify you on the screen. Step 4 : Restart your Portal as requested. Now, you can follow the on-screen instructions to give your Portal a name. The Portal will work as a photo frame if you link your Facebook or Instagram accounts, though the calling feature will still work if you only log into WhatsApp. Step 6 : Portal will now encourage you to manage your contacts. You can view all of your Messenger or WhatsApp contacts and select some to set as favorites. Choose the contacts with whom you would like to have video calls.
Starting up your Portal
You can have up to 4 accounts linked to your Portal TV. The accounts you add must be Facebook friends with an account already connected to your Portal TV. You can add and remove accounts by tapping Settings and then tapping the Accounts tab on your Portal.
The Facebook Portal smart display is great at making video calls to Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp contacts, and while its setup process is easy, it is somewhat lengthy. Insert the power cord into the back of the Portal, and plug it into an outlet. After the Portal connects to your network, it will automatically download and install the latest update. During this time, you can take a virtual tour of the device. After the Portal has finished downloading the update, it will ask you to restart it. Once the Portal has restarted, press continue to agree to the terms of service.
